A Pandemic Growth Mindset

Confidence, like willpower, is not an unlimited resource.

Normally at this time of year is when we start talking about the end-of-year. How to close it out strong, how to prepare for next year, how to start revamping that hiring process… Normally.

2020 has been everything and anything but normal hasn't it?

Since this pandemic has turned things upside down, I've spent a lot of time talking with CEOs and venture capitalist sales leaders and individual sellers and found that they tend to fall into one of two groups;

  1. Those who are waiting to see what happens. They're in Survival Mode which means that they likely won't,
  2. Those that will do whatever it takes to make something happen. They more than likely will.

But there's only one difference really between those two groups. Can you guess?

Mindset. Yeah, you saw that one coming, didn't you?

You see they both have the same challenges, the same competition, the same goals, just not the same attitude about it. So if you identify with the first group, what's it take to change a mindset? There's two questions you've got to answer for yourself. First one; is it worth the fight? Because have no doubt, it is going to be a fight that frustrates you, challenge you, and ultimately changes you. Second; Do you believe you can win the fight?

Now this is about more than confidence because let's face it, confidence like willpower, is not an unlimited resource. So to keep up your confidence levels and open your mind set remind yourself of what you've learned and how far you've come and then share a mantra like, “Do the work.

Now, I first heard this from Michael and Amy Port of Heroic Public Speaking and it became a wake-up call for me literally! Because when I wake up in the morning and I think it's time to do the work, I actually start looking forward to that! Because while I'm doing the work, and focusing there, I'm unattaching myself from the outcome. And it takes a lot of effort to be mindful and present. And it seems contradictory to doesn't it? Like to get to the result, stop focusing on the result. How does that work?
