Setting ambitious goals can be both exhilarating and intimidating. I set a goal for myself to sell over 5,000 copies of my book within four months. To put this in perspective, most new authors sell around 500 books over the lifetime of their book. I knew this goal was ambitious, but I was determined to achieve it.
Achieving the Dream: Selling Over 6,000 Books in Four Months
Writing this book was a journey that took nearly twenty years. My dream of becoming an author started when I was twelve years old. I aspired to set a world record for being the youngest published author. Despite facing setbacks, such as an eleven-year-old breaking the record before I could, I never gave up on my dream.
Throughout the years, I wrote many drafts and made significant investments in my writing process. Like many of you with goals of starting businesses, or achieving other dreams, I faced countless challenges and doubts. The fear of failure and criticism loomed large, but I persevered.
My journey wasn't just about writing; it was also about investing in myself and believing in the power of persistence.
I had many doubts along the way, thinking my work would be torn apart or considered nonsense. However, I kept pushing forward, knowing that achieving my goal would require resilience and unwavering determination.
I had set a goal of 5,000 books in four months, and yesterday, I learned that we had sold over 6,000 books in less than four months! This was a moment of pure joy and disbelief. It made me think of all the times I had set goals and failed or given up halfway through. This success was different. It was a culmination of years of effort, determination, and resilience.
The Televerde Impact
I have dedicated my time to volunteering at the Televerde Foundation for the past six weeks. This organization focuses on workforce development by equipping incarcerated women with essential skills to help them thrive and progress in the global job market. Their tailored PATHS programs emphasize personal development, job readiness, financial literacy, continuous learning, and mentorship.
Once a participant in this program, Tara Simmons recently became a Washington State legislator. Her story is a powerful reminder that no matter where you start, you can achieve incredible things with hard work and dedication. Facing Adversity
Listening to the Televerde women's goals made me reflect on my own journey.
Writing my book and striving to achieve my sales goal was not without its hardships. I faced numerous setbacks and moments of doubt. I remember thinking, This is going to be crap. People are going to tear it apart. Smarter people than me will find flaws in my work. These thoughts plagued me, but I pushed through them.
Lessons Learned
Through this journey, I learned that you can achieve anything you dream of if you are willing to put in the work. You might face people who tell you to give up, often out of love and concern. They don't want to see you struggle or suffer. But sometimes, that struggle is necessary. It's through overcoming adversity that we grow and break old cycles.
You have the power to change the trajectory of your life and create a legacy that others can build on.
The financial reward was nice for me, but the real satisfaction came from knowing that my book was positively impacting people's lives. It was about leaving a legacy of inspiration and empowerment. When asked how I felt after completing the book, I realized I felt relief that my work was making an impact and helping others.
