Are you an entrepreneur on 'The Edge'?

When everything goes wrong, what sales strategy will save you?

You know how sometimes it seems that everywhere you look, there is a message that repeats itself? I can't tell you how many conversations I have with entrepreneurs that they don't know where their next sale will come from, or how to get found by their ideal customer.

I was watching the 1997 movie 'The Edge' with Anthony Hopkins. Great movie, lots of inspirational moments, but one that stood out to me that sounded like the exact problem that happens to entrepreneurs who hit road blocks or speed bumps.

(Pay attention to the narrative at :55).

Sales Strategies and Tips for entrepreneurs from 'The Edge'

If you are trying to survive in the wilderness, get found by rescue, and avoid getting eaten by the bear, here are a few things to remember:

  1. Don't dwell too long on the how. You can't turn back time, and you will make mistakes. Don't ignore your environment, but rather than dwell on the unsavory circumstances- do something to move it forward. Always be selling. Don't just sit there and wait to die. Think, do, review-move on.
  2. Kill the bear. Competition exists, they will eat you alive if given the chance. Kill competition by drawing on your strengths, not competing with theirs.
  3. Make it easy to get found. Keep moving, if your rescue (your ideal customer) passes you by on the first path, keep moving to get found by the next one. Sometimes getting found means being in the right place at the right time, other times it might mean you have to be the one doing the finding. (inbound/outbound)
  4. Network, network, network. No man is an island, don't isolate yourself.  Work with your connections and not only survive together, you will grow together. Be honest- what skills do you lack? Find a partner who has that skill, talent or resource and build a relationship of trust that you can leverage one another's strengths and eliminate the weaknesses.

Do you feel like the wilderness is overwhelming you? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to survive and be found by your sweet spot customer? Looking for an experienced hunting guide that could help you kill your bear?
